Si bien los Juegos Olímpicos son una de las fiestas deportivas por excelencia, siempre aprovechan su popularidad e influencia a nivel mundial, para entregar algún tipo de mensaje. En esta oportunidad, es la unidad del mundo, la paz, el compartir y trabajar en conjunto para lograr un futuro mejor. Esta idea fue crucial al momento de escoger la ciudad sede para el evento. Por lo simbólico, la ganadora fue Beijing, siendo que había otras candidatas con mejores propuestas como París y Toronto. La ventaja de Beijing fue pertenecer a China, un país que luego de muchos años de aislamiento, desde hace ya un tiempo busca abrirse al mundo y dar señales reales de compromiso y apertura. En todo caso, este punto no ha quedado fuera de polémica, pues son varios los que difieren respecto a la real apertura y democracia China. Sin embargo,  indiscutiblemente lo más importante de las Olimpíadas son los deportes. Es por esto, que cada cuatro años los ojos del mundo se dirigen hacia ellos, para disfrutar de lo mejor de cada país en diferentes disciplinas. En esta oportunidad, se realizarán 302 competiciones que abarcan 28 deportes y 37 disciplinas, nueve más que en la versión anterior. Por otra parte, el evento, que este año se realizará entre el 8 y 24 de agosto, cuenta con cinco mascotas: Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying y Nini. Cada una representa un deporte, color y

elemento. Los deportes acuáticos están representados por el azul y el agua; la lucha y combate por el negro y la madera, los de balón por el rojo y el fuego, el atletismo por el  amarillo y  la tierra, mientras que la gimnasia por el verde y el metal. Although the Olympic Games are par excellence one of the sports festivity, they always try to take advantage of the popularity and influence around the world to give some kind of message. In this opportunity, is the world unity, the peace, sharing and working together to have a better future. This idea was very important when choosing the city to be venue for this event. Beijing was the winner for its symbolism, even though there were other candidates with better proposals like Paris and Toronto. The advantage Beijing had was it is in China, a country that after many years of isolation, is trying to open itself to the world and show real signs of commitment and liberalization. In any case, this hasn’t been out of controversy, because many people think otherwise about the Chinese liberalization and democracy. However, there is no doubt the most important thing about the Olympiads is sports. This is why, every four years the eyes all around the world are directed toward them, to enjoy the best of every country in different disciplines.
